What is black soap?

Black soap (Savon Noir or Beldi soap) is a traditional Moroccan product that has been used for centuries in Hammams. Made from black olives and essential for the authentic Hammam ritual of deep cleansing and exfoliation. Its soft paste texture prepares the skin for optimal scrubbing with a Kessa glove.

The Hammam Ritual

What you need: Najel Black Soap – Kessa glove – warm water – towel

1. Preparation (5–10 min): Take a warm shower to open pores. The warmer and more humid the skin, the better it works.

2. Application (5–10 min): Apply a generous amount of black soap to damp skin. Massage in and leave on for 5–10 minutes. Stay in the warm, humid environment.

3. Scrubbing (5–10 min): Moisten the skin again (do not rinse off). Put on the Kessa glove and scrub in long, firm motions from feet upwards. Dead skin will come off in rolls – this is normal.

4. Rinsing: Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Finish with cold water, if desired, to close pores.

5. Care: Pat dry and apply a nourishing body oil (e.g., argan oil). Enjoy your silky-smooth skin.

Frequency: Once a week for optimal results. Take your time – the ritual takes 30–45 minutes.
