Zonnewende rituelen – vier de kracht van het licht

Solstice rituals – celebrate the power of light

What is the Solstice?

The summer solstice (also known as midsummer or Litha) occurs around June 21st each year – the longest day of the year. At this time, the sun is at its highest point, and the light energy on earth is at its most powerful. In many ancient cultures and spiritual traditions, this moment was celebrated as a sacred turning point: the peak of light, before the slow return to darkness.

The Symbolism of the Summer Solstice

The solstice symbolizes abundance, fertility, strength, and consciousness. It is a moment to celebrate what has grown – in your life, your relationships, and yourself. But also a moment for reflection: what do you want to release now that the light has reached its peak? What is ready for transformation?

Rituals to Celebrate the Solstice

Fire Ceremony or Candle Ritual
Fire is the element of the solstice. Light a candle at sunrise or sunset and write down what you want to release. Burn the paper (safely!) as a symbol of transformation and renewal.

Charging Crystals in the Sun
The solstice is the perfect time to charge your crystals. Place them outside in the morning sunlight and set an intention for the new season. Citrine, sunstone, and orange calcite are particularly powerful at this time.

Smudging and Space Clearing
Cleanse your home and yourself with incense or sage. Open all windows and let the summer energy flow in. Visualize old, heavy energy leaving and making way for light and abundance.

Solstice Altar
Create a small altar with symbols of summer: flowers, fruit, yellow and orange crystals, a candle, and elements from nature. It doesn't have to be big – a small corner in your home is enough to consciously acknowledge this special moment.

Meditation at Sunrise or Sunset
Sit outside during the first or last light of the day. Breathe deeply, feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, and set an intention for the second half of the year. What do you want to manifest? What do you want to grow?

Which Gemstones Suit the Solstice?

The solstice calls for warm, sunny energy. Choose sunstone for joy and self-confidence, citrine for abundance and positivity, orange and yellow stones for energy and creativity, and black tourmaline for protection and grounding during transformation.
